Working Full Time – Get an Online Education Cost Paid For

More and more people are dealing with the frustrations of a full time job, while trying to further their education, either as a part time or full time student. Luckily there is now the option of taking classes online at most major colleges and universities. The online option has changed the landscape to getting a college degree, and even what would be classified as the traditional student is now taking advantage to online classes.

The one myth that must be exposed is that getting a higher education online is less expensive than attending a brick and mortar University. This in most cases is not true, online education cost more in some cases. The important thing to realize is there is student loan programs available to help pay for on-line classes, just like with a traditional education.

Four years ago the Federal finical aid programs were opened up to include financing for online courses.. There is a requirement that these online classes must be part of a degrees program to be eligible for finical aid. You can’t get aid, just to take further education classes that are not part of a degree-ed program.

The process to finding loans and or grants for an online education is the same as if you were applying to a traditional school.. The first step in seeing what loans or grants are available is to fill out the FAFSA application just like you would if you were attending a traditional school. The finical aid allotted for online and offline schooling is awarded to students who show a need based on the FAFSA application. But even if you don’t qualify for financial aid, the FAFSA application will help the government show you what loan programs you are qualified to receive.

There are many different types of scholarships and grants that you could apply for to fund your online education. If you are trying to find a way to further your education online while holding down a full time job, you might want to check with your employee to see if they offer a tuition reimbursement program. There are also professional organizations that offer scholarships to online students that you might want to look into.

For those that are willing to do the research and submit the forms, it is no harder to find funding for the online education than it is to fund a more traditional education. You just need to start early and be persistent in your endeavor.

What Is The Best Home Based Business Opportunity?

The Best Home Based Business Opportunity:
This may mean different things to different people. Why is that I hear you ask? The reason is this. Some people may see a business as providing free information to others and being philanthropic. Other people may want to make lots of money regardless of the cost to others and will want the most efficient business enterprise to help them achieve it.

This article has been produced to answer the question what is the best home based business opportunity. The author is going to assume that most people occupy the middle ground whereby they want to provide free information in their business yet make a nice profit as time marches on, by selling an item or items. Incidentally, nothing illegal or borderline is to be considered.

Leverage: Small input, big output:
The best home based business opportunity would be the one that offers the best financial return for a small input of time or money. One of the best ways to obtain a very good return for a relatively small input is to use what is called leverage.

Perhaps the best known example of leverage would be a mortgage on a residential property. Whereby you input a small amount of the property value and as the property value rises over time you get to keep the whole of that rise. Up until the first quarter of 2007, hundreds of thousands of people experienced this type of leverage.

Another type of leverage, is to have other people to work for you. This could be achieved by something as simple as outsourcing. That is giving some of your mundane business tasks to others. The benefit of this, is that it provides a more cost effective use of your time, which you can use for either selling or building up the best home based business opportunity for yourself in some other way.

As an aside: Many businesses big and small borrow money to run and operate their enterprises, this includes the high street banks. This is leverage and works in a similar way to having a mortgage.

Business type:
The type of business you can start is limited in many respects only by your imagination. The ideas that are created as a consequence of your imagination can provide a real monetary value. But you have to be able to recognise that fact and act upon them. When you receive these ideas they will come to you in a flash. Therefore do not ignore them.

The principles of desire, faith and persistence, must be used in conjunction with the best home based business opportunity. These principles must become a core belief within yourself.

No money – no prospects. Not true:
Money is in short supply for many people, but do not let this hold you back. Just remember: ‘where there is a will there is a way.’ Use your imagination. With little or no money you simply have to do everything yourself. This should not be looked upon as a negative. Because it will teach you about all aspects of your best home based business opportunity. Doing everything yourself, will be cost effective in terms of money, but will be inefficient in terms of time taken.

What is your best opportunity
The best home based business opportunity will depend upon where you are today. Are you cash rich and time poor. Then you could realistically outsource and pay others to set up and run your business. Alternatively, if you are cash poor, then you will have to do everything yourself. It will be possible to start a business with no money of your own, but you will have to be a good salesperson and borrow it from others.

The Myth of a Free Home Based Business Opportunity

There is a real crazy myth about a free home based business opportunity that many people hear about and of course eventually believe that is true. The myth that many people hear about is that success comes easy with a free home business. Of course this is not true because people are lead to believe that all they have to do is find this kind of business and right away they will be successful. This article will reveal to you the right way to be successful and how you can get started today. In order to achieve success with a free home based business opportunity you have to be willing to dedicate the time needed learning all that you can about the industry. Achieving success is a process that takes time and is not something that’s going to happen overnight the many ways to achieve success and many methods that you can use to promote your home the business. But at all just takes time to get used to in test out to see which one is the one that’s right for you.Since I’m assuming you’re just starting out this whole home based business thing you are definitely on the right track with a free home based business opportunity because you are not going to be paying too much money to maintain your business. But the next step that I suggest you do is to use the power of articles as your promotional method. Everyone needs a promotional method because is going to be the way that you’re going to promote your business in order to get results and achieve success. The reason I say use the power of articles is because is a promotional method that only requires you to invest your time and not your money. This is very important when you first start because I’m pretty sure you do not going to have as much funds as you would like to spend in your advertising budget.

New Jersey’s Tax Exempt Property

BRIEF HISTORYGenerally, prior to 1900 New Jersey local tax assessors seldom entered a complete list of tax exempt property located within their municipality on their tax rolls. Why should they, nobody would ever think about levying a property tax on governmental, educational, church or other property used for charitable purposes. It made little sense to those early property tax assessors to spend the resources to find, list and value such tax exempt property. Why, taxing government and other tax exempt property owners that served fundamentally public rather than private interests would be just taking publics money from one pocket and putting it in the other pocket, right?Tax exemption cases brought before the New Jersey Courts after 1900 show many questionable property tax exemption claims were filed by not for profit entities. Assessors found that tax exempt property owners organized for charitable and religious purposes leased their tax exempt property rights to other for profit businesses. At the same time other educational institutions went way beyond the charges set forth in their charter’s provisions by including under their tax exemption umbrella such questionable property uses as polo fields for the use of their students and other private polo teams. With increasing complaints about the abuses of tax exempt claims some local tax assessors began to assess certain questionable educational, charitable and church property owners for property that was not being used strictly for their chartered tax exempt purposes.Of course, these tax exempt property owners complained to their legislators in Trenton about the wrongs caused them by the local property tax assessor. Their government representatives in Trenton then started to provide some standards in the property tax law for the tax assessors to follow. So, for different uses of exempt property, presumably based on the worthiness to society of a particular property’s use, the law specified different standards. School buildings for example had to be actually used for their intended purpose, while buildings for the work of churches had to be actually and exclusively used for religious purposes, etc. Then County Boards of Taxation and the State Courts had to begin settling disputes over what those terms meant in actual application.Today, the property tax exemption battle continues. Should your church be able to build a large building to lease to a For Profit Day Care Center and with the rent money pay off the building’s mortgage? Does a private school need a golf course for golfers who are not students when school is out so as to defray the expense of the golf course? These are the questions that local tax assessors, the courts and the government in Trenton struggles with daily.GOLD MINE OR MINE FIELDPrior to the Cahill Tax Policy Commission in 1973 other Tax Commissions created by the Legislature had looked solely into the legal status of tax exempt property in New Jersey and took extensive testimony concerning perceived tax exempt property abuses. Nevertheless, little could be done legislatively at that time because there was no Statewide tabulation of Exempt Property values in New Jersey and therefore the fiscal tax impact locally of changes in the law could not be weighed by the State Government decision makers. To remedy that problem the Division of Taxation in 1971, at the request of the Cahill Tax Policy Commission took on the job of collecting over 100,000 exempt properties listed by Local Tax Assessors on their local Tax Exempt Lists. The submission of Governor Cahill’s Tax Policy Report to the legislature was delayed so that the Exempt Property Study could be completed because it was thought that such a list could contain the pot of gold needed to avert major new tax increases to pay for property tax relief. The study was finished and its results were reported in the ensuing Tax Policy Commission Report with recommendations that in large did not meet the political and social needs of the day for a new source of revenue for property tax relief. However, while no new revenue source for property tax relief was found because of the Exempt Property Study, the large concentrations of exempt property found in certain cities and towns lead to the adoption of a State Aid Program called the PILOT Program which stood for “payments in lieu of taxes.” In essence, the State made payments to municipalities at the effective municipal purpose tax rate for certain properties owned by the State. Those Sate Aid payments over the years were seldom fully funded according to the formula set forth in the law because the program had its pay out level reduced by a fixed percentage for many State Budget years. Then the PILOT program was incorporated into the COMPTRA State aid program which in effect locked up both the property values used to calculate its funding along with the local effective municipal purposes tax rates used in the formula at a static level. That COMPTRA program consolidated more than a dozen State aid programs along with the PILOT program into one State Budget line item.In 1985 the New Jersey Tax Assessment Study Commission looked into the Tax Exempt Property problem and determined that while exempt property owners paid a “ready and available fee” to their local water utility to use water up “on demand” and be billed for its usage those same exempt property owners did not pay their municipal governments for their public work departments or police departments to have those public servants and their equipment “ready and available” to meet the needs of the exempt property owners when required. The Commission made estimates as to the amount of revenue that could be raised Statewide if such taxing authority was given to municipal governments by the Sate and recommended that the Legislature adopt such a law. Of course the Legislature acted swiftly to draft a legislative resolution stating that the Legislature had no knowledge of and in no way supported such a user fee on churches and other not for profit charitable and educational institutions.LESSONS LEARNED AND THE FUTUREEncourage local tax assessors to remain vigilant in granting tax exemptions to only those property owners who meet the letter of the law. Do not attempt to impose user fees on tax exempt property during sunlight hours in Trenton. Partisan Legislative staff should remind their legislators that the clergy can speak from the pulpit on Sunday about the foolish and wrong headed user fee proposals of legislators who suggest imposing user fees on churches and the November elections falls on a Tuesday only two short days from the Sunday sermon. If history is any prediction of the future then New Jersey may see more State owned properties like the Garden State Art Center have its name leased out for a profit. Perhaps one day instead of the Atlantic City Expressway New Jersey will have the Trump Expressway or the Mack Truck Turnpike. It is even possible that one day New Jersey will sell its Sate House to a large corporation to raise needed revenues and then rent it back. Would that require more friendly Sate treatment of the corporate community, else eviction could ensue? Perhaps it really comes down to the public being vigilant watch dogs. Why not require the Division of Taxation to post on its web page a listing of Tax Exempt Property, by municipality, by ownership and by purpose? Property taxation is a battle, and the tax assessors in New Jersey need the support of the public to enforce the letter of the law.A New Jersey Governor one day may sign a law permitting the sale, lease, or granting of naming rights on State Owned Property to raise money for some worthwhile State purpose. Such revenue could be used to pay off State Debt so as to free up cash for property tax relief. The payment streams from such activities could become a new source of annual State revenue. Once the State government adopted this new funding mechanism my guess is that the local municipal and county governments would follow suit soon thereafter. If State and Local governments keep doing the same fiscal things over and over and hoping to find new sources of revenue they will never be able to fully serve their citizens.I also think it would be all right for the State to sell certain State owned property, so long as that sale did not jeopardize the future economic prosperity of the State or threaten the future safety of its people. For example, the sale of the New Jersey Turnpike or Garden State Parkway would leave the business and people in New Jersey who depend on those vital arteries at the mercy of a profit driven corporation. However, the sale and lease back of a State warehouse would free up cash to pay off State debt that is eating into the State’s ability to provide vital services and provide property tax relief. The State might even sell a State property and use part of the proceeds to invest in other property that holds the potential to increase substantially in value in the future. My point is that State asset and debt management needs a higher viability than it now receives.

Learning to Manage Your Personal Finances

Let’s face the facts; one of the hardest things to manage is, of course, your personal finances. However, a lot of people do not know what it means to manage their personal finances. The good thing about this is that you can ask yourself four main questions that will be able to answer this for you. These are questions that can help you see if you have managed your personal finances the right way. Learning to do this is one of the hardest things that you can do. However, if you get to the point where you can do it, then you will live a very happy life.

The first question that you have to ask when looking at how to manage your personal finances is, can you meet your living means without using a credit card? This means, can you get by month after month without having to have a lot of credit card debt? If you can not, then you have not learned how to manage your personal finances the right way yet. This is something that people have to learn how to do. You have to learn to be able to break away from the credit cards and live debt free. Only then are you going to be able to handle your personal finances.

Then next thing that you have to look at is if you have any money saved up? Usually people do not get money saved up until it is late in their life. However, thinking about saving money up is a good way to get your Personal Finance in order. Remember, you need to make sure you can meet your living needs first. As soon as you can do that, then start saving money. After all, you can not start saving money before you meet your living needs. The sooner that you start saving money, the sooner you will get your personal finances in order.

The most important thing that you have to look at when you are trying to manage your personal finances is your job. You need to look at if you have a steady job that has reliable income. Now this is something that can be hard to do. That is because if you work in retail, you never know when you could get let go. So to have a steady job you have to be with a bigger company or your own boss. This can really help you get your personal finances in order. Your personal finances are the main thing that you need to be worried about. Get those in order first before you worry about other things.

Pittsburgh Accounting – How To Find The Best Accounting Firm In Pittsburgh For Your Small Business

If you are looking for the best accounting firm in Pittsburgh for your small business, here are five definitive facts about the city and five sure-fire ways to find the accounting firm there that best meets your small business needs.

Pittsburgh — The Most Livable City In The U.S. Pittsburgh is Pennsylvania’s second largest city, population 311,647. The seven county area surrounding the city boasts a population of 2,354,957. Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh, is by far the biggest and most prosperous. In these seven counties, there are over 1,000 accounting firms, 40% of which are in Pittsburgh. Over half of them cater to small businesses.

In 2005 and again in 2009, The Economist ranked Pittsburgh the top most livable city in the United States. In 2007, Pittsburgh claimed the number one spot in Places Rated Almanac. In 2010, both Forbes Magazine and Yahoo! had Pittsburgh at the top of their lists. Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Pittsburgh as one of the best for entrepreneurs.

Pittsburgh –The City Of Bridges. Pittsburgh is the world record holder for bridges with 446 of them contained entirely within the city limits. These bridges cross the Allegheny River from the northeast and the Monongahela River from the southeast to form the Ohio River and the Downtown area of the city known as the Golden Triangle. They link the city to the four areas surrounding it, namely the North Side/North Hills, the South Side/South Hills, the East End and the West End. Four interstates (I-376, I-79, I-279 and I-579), known to Pittsburghers as the Parkway East, the Parkway West, the Parkway North and Crosstown and two major expressways (Route 28 and Route 22) connect 237 boroughs and 202 townships with each other and with Downtown Pittsburgh.

Most of the larger accounting firms serving Pittsburgh’s major corporations are in Downtown Pittsburgh. However, virtually all of the accounting firms serving the city’s ever-growing small business population are located in the areas north, south, east and west of the city. These firms serve small businesses in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County and also offer their services to the other six counties that make up the Greater Pittsburgh Area. The small business accounting firms in these areas have deep-seated ties to the community, the people and the businesses residing there.

Pittsburgh — A City Transformed. Thirty years ago, Pittsburgh was a dirty, smoky steel town, known as the Steel City, because of its predominance as a mighty steel-making hub. When that industry collapsed and Pittsburgh lost its manufacturing base, its blue-collar workers and corporate giants like Westinghouse, Gulf Oil, Koppers and Rockwell International, the city faced its first economic crisis in more than a century. To its credit, though, the city transformed like none other in the country and emerged twenty years later as a thriving white-collar metropolis.

Today, Pittsburgh is still a steel city. US Steel, the 10th largest steel company in the world, is headquartered there. Allegheny Technologies, a world-class steel maker, has eight manufacturing plants in the region. The city still employs 7,000 steel workers and another 12,000 in the primary metals sector. Though the area lost 100,000 manufacturing jobs in the last 30 years, that sector is still one of the biggest contributors to the region’s economy. What changed is how diversified that sector is now. Cutting-edge companies in life sciences, robotics, information technology and research have joined ranks with eight Fortune 500 companies. Health care, education, research, financial services and entertainment/tourism are the newly emerging industries that are driving revenue and employment for the region.

One of the fastest-growing fields supporting the city’s transformation to a white-collar economy is accounting. This is especially true as the city continues to move away from industry to service and technology. Many of the newly emerging companies across all sectors of the local economy are small businesses. Though there are already over 400 accounting firms in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County alone servicing those businesses, that number increases dramatically as you move into the other seven counties surrounding the city.

Pittsburgh — A City Of Growth. The local economy mirrors the nation’s economy as it continues to battle the recession. However, the region has fared better than most places in the country and is poised for substantive growth in 2011. Economists from the city’s largest financial institutions predict that the Greater Pittsburgh Area will add 13,000 new jobs this year. Unemployment is expected to drop below eight percent as larger corporations begin to hire and newly established businesses begin to grow. Additional hiring will also be evident as new companies locate there.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the city’s largest employer, is currently in a hiring mode. Retail giants like Dick’s Sporting Goods and General Nutrition Center (GNC) are growing. Google now operates a 40,000 square foot office in Pittsburgh and recently announced plans for expansion. Marcellus Shale natural gas will be a major contributor to the local economy. The Cultural Arts, including film production, continues to blossom and dozens of new information technology firms are emerging to support the growing research activity at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon University.

Most of the new companies being created in the area are small businesses supporting these major industries. As the area grows, these businesses will grow as well and their need for more specialized accounting services will become increasingly evident. Presently, accountant firms in the Pittsburgh area offer 18 different types of accounting to small businesses, income tax accounting and project accounting to name a few.

Pittsburgh — The City Of Champions. Pittsburgh is home to three major league franchises — the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Two of those teams have graced the city with championships, the Steelers winning six Super Bowl titles and the Penguins winning three Stanley Cups. Thanks to the ingenious idea of a beloved Pittsburgh sportscaster and his Terrible Towel, the Steelers have given Pittsburgh fans reason to proclaim their hometown pride by simply waving their Terrible Towel. This marketing icon singlehandedly created Steeler Nation, a brotherhood of loyal fans across the country that has quietly and selflessly raised millions of dollars for a local charity in Pittsburgh.

This hometown pride, this brotherhood, this spirit of generosity is championed in almost every neighborhood and community in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Pittsburghers are proud, industrious, friendly and generous people. Many of them have lived in their hometown for years and have established hundreds of small businesses to support their families, their communities and the city they call home. Accounting firms throughout the area have their roots in these same neighborhoods and have managed to successfully guide and support these businesses and the local communities and organizations they serve. Because of their efforts, these small businesses continue to prosper.

With a good working knowledge of the city, its economy and its people, you can easily find the accounting firm in Pittsburgh that best meets your small business needs. Here are five sure-fire ways to help you do that.

Pay close attention to your location and the location of the accounting firm with whom you choose to work. Pittsburgh is a large metropolitan city with over 400 neighborhoods and communities as diverse as the people living there. These neighborhoods and communities are what make Pittsburgh unique and it is important that you find an accounting firm who knows these places and the businesses that reside there. Pittsburgh is also a city, like many other big cities in the country, plagued with traffic jams, construction delays and bad weather. These conditions cause havoc on the roads in and out of the city at any time in the course of a regular business day. Don’t waste time driving all the way across town to meet with your accountant. Besides, if your accounting firm is close to you, they should be willing to come to your place of business.

Focus your attention on only those firms in Pittsburgh specializing in small business accounting. Small business accounting firms keep track of salaries and wages, deductions for federal, state and local taxes and Social Security, utility costs, maintenance, depreciation, amortization, interest and rent. They also prepare your tax returns and administer payroll, health insurance and 401K retirement programs. These are the responsibilities you will want your accounting firm to handle for you. If they can also provide sales, marketing and financial services to meet the ever-growing needs of your small business, so much the better.

Think about the things you know you want to receive from your accounting firm on a regular basis. Do you want them to reconcile your business checking account each month so that you know how your business is doing and you can manage your cash more effectively? Do you want an income statement itemizing your revenue and expenses every month or every quarter so that you can determine how effectively your business is performing? Do you want to receive a balance sheet giving you a snapshot of the financial condition of your business at any specific point in time so that you have the proper financial reporting to give to banks, investors and vendors who are considering how much credit to give you? Any accounting firm in Pittsburgh that professes to be a small business accounting firm should be able to provide you with all of these things as a matter of course, including as many consultations as you might need to run your business effectively and efficiently.

Get answers to all of your questions before you commit to any one accounting firm. Here are questions you might consider asking:

• Where exactly is your accounting firm located in Pittsburgh?
• What accounting services do you provide for small business owners? Can you take care of me and my accounting needs?
• What ties do you have to the community? Have you ever been recognized by your Chamber of Commerce or the Small Business Administration for outstanding service to a small business owner?
• What kind of monthly/quarterly/yearly reports can I expect to receive from you? How will these reports help me to better manage my business? Will I be able to understand them without your help?
• How and in what format will you want to receive information from me? How often will you want that information?
• When I have a question or concern, how best can I communicate with you? How quickly will you respond?
• How can you help me to grow my business?

Begin your search with Google, not the Yellow Pages. Start by searching for “Pittsburgh Accountants” or “Pittsburgh Accounting Firms.” Narrow your search, if necessary, by location and type of accounting services provided; for example, search for “Accounting Firms In Kennedy Township” or “Small Business Accounting In Pittsburgh.”

Realize early on that accounting is the foundation upon which your success, in large part, will be determined. And remember, for the small business owner, it is all about saving time and saving money. Using these five sure-fire ways to find the best accounting firm in Pittsburgh for your small business will save you both and your company’s success depends on it.

The Finer Points of Internet Auctions

Penny auctions have exploded in popularity with the massive growth of the internet. However, few people know the true origins of penny auctions.Beginnings actually stretch back to the Great Depression. Those were hard times for everyone, but even harder for farmers. Farmers struggled to bring in steady income because of droughts and crops not selling as well as they had previously. As a result, the banks would foreclose on the farmers who couldn’t keep up with their mortgage payments.

The banks weren’t satisfied with just repossessing the house, they wanted to raise as much capital as possible, so they resorted to selling off the possessions of the owners of the repossessed houses. There was not much the farmers could do about it so they began bidding ridiculously low prices, pennies, on the items while threatening others who dared to bid higher than a few pennies.

The auctions of today hardly resemble their tremulous beginnings. Being part of a penny auction today is exhilarating, fun, and addictive. It combines the selling format of auctioning with a little bit of chance factored in.Auctions are a game of strategy but also a game of luck.

The premise behind penny auctions is giving people the chance to win an item at a drastically reduced price.Auctions make that possible by spreading out the cost of the product among multiple bidders. In order for a person to take part in an auction, they must pay a set price for each bid. For example, if a person wanted to bid on a fifty dollar Amazon gift card then he would spend a dollar for each time a bid placed. If he ended up winning the gift card, then he would only have spent a few dollars for a fifty dollar gift card. Usually penny auctions sell bids in packages.

The main foundation of penny auctions is the pay-per-bid format. It is the key that allows bidders to win items at the fraction of their retail value and allows the auction owners to keep their site profitable. Most y auction sites run on the same premise: people pay a set amount for each bid, whenever a person places a bid within the closing seconds of the auction time will be added, the last person left with a unique bid after the clocks runs out will win the item. There are a large variety of items that can be won, but they tend to be popular electronics or gift cards to popular stores.

There are two types of auctions: lowest unique bid auction and highest unique bid auction. Lowest unique auction sounds confusing but it is actually quite simple. A unique bid is when only one person has a bid at a certain price. Bids usually start at one penny, a bidder can then place a bid at two pennies. Until another bidder places a higher bid, the most recent bidder will be the lowest unique bid because that was the only bid at two cents and nobody bid higher. However, penny auctions generally don’t stop at one penny. It is not uncommon to find auctions that end up at a couple hundred dollars based on the popularity of the item being auctioned. However, the same principles apply for those auctions. Highest unique bid auctions follow the more traditional auction format such as eBay. The person with the highest bid at the end of the auction wins the item.

Auction site owners turn a profit by selling bids. Say twenty people are bidding on a ten dollar gift card at one dollar per bid, at the end of the auction if there were twenty bids placed in total then the site owner would have made twenty dollars with a ten dollar profit.Auctions do seem like a win-win situation:The site owner makes money while the bidder gets an item for dirt cheap. However, not everyone wins in penny auctions. The people who paid one dollar each bid but left with nothing to show for their investments will not be so happy.

Penny auction has a lot of chance mixed into it, but one can incorporate strategy that will help raise the chances of winning. Playing smart can make all the difference between gambling and auctioning.

The first crucial tip to winning penny auctions is to know how to manage your bids. Your goal should be to win as much as possible without spending a ton of money buying bids. Managing your bids means that you should already know how much you are willing to risk in order to win an item. The amount of capital you are willing to risk will determine how many bids you can use. Once you know how many bids you have to spend on an item, then you will be better able to manage how and when you place a bid. That will keep you from blowing away all of your bids in the first few seconds of the auction.

The next tip is to practice time management. When fighting in the trenches of penny auctions, you have two enemies: other bidders and time. Knowing when to bid is a must if you want to have success. Placing a bid when there is a lot of time left on the clock is never a good idea. You have to remember that the key to winning a penny auction is being the last one standing when the clock runs out and that each bid increases the amount of time left. It would be a good practice to wait until the last few minutes of the auction before you begin to bid.

The final tip for successful auctioning is to keep your emotions under control.Auctions have a lot of similarities to gambling, and just like gambling, your spending can get out of control. If you keep your emotions level, it will keep you from making rash decisions and blowing loads of cash. Keep your mind clear so that you can gage the behavior of the other bidders and outsmart them.

Penny auctions are a great addition to the web whether you want to win an item that otherwise you wouldn’t be able to afford or if you simply enjoy the thrill that comes with bidding in auctions. Unfortunately, scam sites have tarnished the reputation of the legitimate penny auction sites. However, there are ways that you can protect yourself from scamers and enjoy your auctioning without having to worry about losing your money due to dishonesty.

Checking the reputation of the auction site before you start spending your hard earned money is always a good idea. Chances are other people have tried the site before you and some of them have left reviews. The reviews are your way to gage whether a auction site is trustworthy or not. If a site is getting overwhelmingly negative reviews, then that is a clear indication that you should steer your business elsewhere.

Another tool you can use to protect yourself is checking the Alexia ranks of the auction sites. Alexia rank will give a solid view of how much traffic the auction is getting. If you see a huge difference in the amount of traffic Alexia is projecting and the amount of active bidders on the site, then warning signals should be ringing in your head. Some auction sites have been known to set up robots that automatically bid on projects in order to keep the auction going and inflate the price. That is known as shill bidding. You can sniff out those sites by comparing the traffic the site should be getting to the amount of users using this site.

New legislation may come out later down the road that will officially make penny auctions gambling, but until then, it is a fun, exciting auction that allows one to win the item they’ve always wanted but couldn’t afford.Auctions are also quite lucrative for the site owners because of the pay-per-bid strategy they’ve incorporated. Penny auctions had humble beginnings with farmers who just wanted to get back at the banks who kicked them out of their house. More recently, auctions have enjoyed an explosion in popularity with the rise of the internet.

There are two main formats fora auctions, lowest and highest unique auction, however they both run on the same premise where the last unique bid wins the item. Winning a penny auction will require a certain amount of mental tactic and a bit of luck. However, you can increase your odds of winning by practicing certain techniques such as managing your bids wisely, learning how to work with the time, and keeping a level head and your emotions under control. When you combine those three strategies to your bidding plan, you will find that you win a lot more often.

It is important that you do your due diligence to protect yourself when participating in auctions. Not every auction is run by honest and trustworthy people. There are people out there who just want to take your money. You can protect yourself by ensuring that you only bid on sites that already have a very positive reputation from real users.

How to Find Great Live Auctions for Resale Items

Hi, my name is Walt. I’m an auctioneer with 25 years of experience in the auction business and licensed in the state of MA. I own Quick Auction Service, a company that specializes in building and running custom auctions, I’m also the webmaster of my own site and have been on eBay for 8 years. Besides eBay, the types of auctions I run most frequently are antiques and on-site estate auctions, although I’ve run everything from business overstock auctions to charity & special event auctions.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge and stories of the auction business. My goal for article is to help folks get the absolute most out of their auction experience.

Whether your fresh out of the package or a seasoned dealer I think I can offer something in this article to help you with your auciton adventures.

There may be as many reasons to attend auctions as there are types of auctions to attend. Maybe you want to attend an auction to buy items for re-sale on eBay, or some other market. Maybe you want to furnish your home with wonderful antiques, or you want to furnish your home as inexpensively without sacrificing quality. Some folks are just looking for a fun night out. With a little perseverance all these things are possible.

There are antiques and estate auctions, auto auctions, overstock auctions, absolute and no reserve auctions, real estate auctions, specialty auctions where only one genre of items are sold, tailgate auctions, live auctions, online auctions, sealed bid auctions, silent auctions, charity and fund raising auctions and many more.

Can you really buy for pennies on the dollar at an auction? You bet! Many times I’ve seen folks buy and re-sell at the same auction on the same night for a good profit, although be advised, this should only be done after the auction is over.

There are a lot of ways to find an auction, but here are some tips on how to find and attend the best ones.

Visit the genre of shops in the area that apply to the type of auction you want to attend. IE: If your looking for a good antique auction to attend, stop in the local antiques shops and ask for what there are for good auctions in the area. Sounds obvious right? But listen to what they don’t say as well as what they do say. Oftentimes when a dealer speaks poorly about an auction he or she attends, it may be likely that they are trying to keep a good thing secret. Think for a moment, why would a dealer keep attending a lousy auction?

Newspaper ads: I personally like to find ads in the classified ad section rather than flashy display ads. Flashy ads are usually indicative of an auction that will be high priced, may have reserves, (a set price on an item), and usually an enormous crowd. While any auction can be profitable to attend, it is usually best to steer clear of the glitzy ones, at least for the beginner.

Here’s the minimum you want to find out before you go. If there is a phone number in the ad, call and ask for the terms of the sale. What forms of payment do they accept? Is it an absolute auction? An absolute auction is one that has no minimum or reserve bids on items. These are the best auctions to attend! Is there a buyers premium? A buyers premium is like a tax that everyone who makes purchases at that auction must pay above the winning bid price. Most auctions these days do charge a buyers premium, 10% is not unreasonable but I feel much more than that is greedy, and the auctioneer that charges over 10% is counting on most bidders not doing the extra math as the bids quicken in pace.

A fair auction will have ample time to inspect the merchandise, usually at least 2 or 3 hours. Find out when inspection starts and make sure to attend! Never attend an auction if you can’t make the inspection, not unless your prepared to gamble. Most auctioneers sell at a rate of about 100 items per hour, which is why they sell “as is”. They simply don’t have the time to give a detailed description of all the items. Since almost all items at auction are sold AS IS, there are sure to be some damaged, refinished, fake and incomplete items at any given auction. Beware of any auctions that offer very little or no inspection time.

Good auctions will usually have 150 to 400 lots. A lot may be one item or a group of items. The exception to this are specialty auctions, auto auctions, real estate auctions etc.

When you attend your first sale, take note of the 1/2 dozen or so dealers that buy the most often. See if you can find out about other area auctions they attend.

When you do find an excellent auction, attend it as often as possible. By frequenting good sales, you help increase the bottom line of that business. It’s difficult for many auctioneers to keep the quality of merchandise consistent, so good attendance certainly helps. And when an auctioneer gets to know you as a buyer, he/she will go out of the way to accommodate you, to keep you coming back.
